US taxpayer dollars should not support terror

Statement of the petition

To: Madame Secretary Clinton

Dear Madame Secretary Clinton,

As United States citizens, we are deeply invested in a just and lasting peace in the Middle East. We know that the Middle East will not achieve peace as long as young people are taught hatred and violence in classrooms, nor will peace be achieved as long as the Hamas ideology of terror and destruction finds haven and support in supposedly neutral organizations.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has provided an internationally-funded system of schools and social services for the 1948 Palestinian refugees and their descendants for the past 60 years including refugees in Hamas controlled Gaza. But according to accumulating evidence, its humanitarian mission has been compromised. The United States is the UNRWA’s largest individual funder and is in a strong position to demand change. Also American taxpayers deserve to know that their tax dollars are not being used to further or glorify terrorism. The Rothman-Kirk letter demands accountability and deserves our support.

We urge you to establish a moratorium on U.S. contributions to the UNRWA as per the Rothman-Kirk letter that was sent to your office. The moratorium should remain in place until the Government Accountability Office determines whether the UNRWA has adequate control mechanisms in place to ensure that terrorists are not receiving assistance from its programs. We thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
The undersigned
